Low Intensity Classes at the YMCA


Low Impact Aerobics

60 minute low-impact aerobic workout, plus exercises for flexibility, strength, and balance. Emphasis is on variety; no workout is ever the same and a variety of music is used to motivate.


ACTIVE CHAIR

45 minute class of lower and upper body exercises with emphasis on range of motion and building endurance. The class is also dedicated to balance and stretching. Some of the exercises can be performed standing, if the participant is able.


Chair Only

Exercises performed while sitting in a chair. Emphasis is on strength and flexibility. 


Gentle Yoga

A restful, calming class including breathing, gentle flowing movements, passive and supported poses. A perfect beginning yoga class that is also appropriate for those working with injury, limited mobility, or prefer a gentler approach to yoga. 


Super Circuit

A great work-out alternating cardiovascular exercise and strength training. Perfect for all fitness levels as each person works at their own intensity level. (Wellness Center)


Yoga

Yoga Fit Style is a form of Hatha Yoga which believes in “breathing, feeling, & listening” to the body. It is an active, flowing style of Yoga that can be modified to allow each participant to feel safe yet challenged.


Athricise

No swimming skills are required as all exercises are done in water waist-to-shoulder depth. This class is designed for participants with mild to serious arthritis problems. Emphasis is placed on joint flexibility and range of motion exercises.


Water Walking

This is a 45 minute instructor led class with 15 minutes of optional lap swim time. This class is not intended for those who are uncomfortable in deep water or dislike getting water in their face and hair. Water Walking is a high intensity, full body workout focusing on muscle toning with some cardio included. Exercises in class may be modified for those with specific needs.


Aquacise

A great non-impact or low impact aerobic workout. The exercises are designed to increase muscle tone, flexibility, strength and endurance. Swimming is not required. Use of equipment creates a little more resistance.
