Summer 2025 Day camp openings

 The Mexico Area Family YMCA is looking for enthusiastic and energetic staff to join our 2025 Summer Day Camp Team! If you love working with kids and want to help them make memories that last a lifetime, this is the perfect summer job for you!


Day Camp Counselors

Pay: Minimum Wage

  • Monday–Friday, June 30 – August 8
  • Morning Shift: 6:45 AM – 12:15 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 12:00 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Openings for K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th/5th grade (One morning & one afternoon counselor per grade)


Food Program Coordinator

Pay: Minimum Wage

  • Responsible for preparing, serving, and organizing meals for day camp participants and local youth in need
  • Includes lunch, breakfast prep, and snack organization


Important Dates:

  • Applications accepted until April 30th
  • Interviews will take place in early May
  • Mandatory training will be held in June

Sport Management & Youth Development/Education Programs


The Mexico Area Family YMCA is accepting applications for internships in both sport management and youth development fields. The candidate should be currently working toward a degree within the field of parks and recreation, education or a closely related area of study. This internship provides a comprehensive experience of recreation operations including administration, programming, employee management, community and aquatic center management, day camps, special events, budgeting, leadership, marketing and daily operations.


Internship Summary:

Gain public service and non-profit experience for an entry-level position in the recreation industry while performing duties of YMCA and Parks & Recreation professionals.

Work in a great team atmosphere with kind people that are eager to help you learn and grow for up to 12 weeks (480 hours) and $13.75/hour


Preferred Qualifications:

The Intern should possess excellent customer service skills, the ability to work with and without direct supervision, have excellent communication skills, functional computer skills and the ability to multitask, provide assistance to member’s requests along with inquiries about programs, operations and policies as well as perform various administrative duties as directed by staff.

  • Internship eligible for course credit through your degree program.
  • Must be able to commit to at least 20-40 hours per week.
  • Hours will vary between nights, weekends, and regular office hours.
  • A weekly schedule will be determined between the student and supervisor.
  • The desired candidate will utilize this internship opportunity for college credit.


Internship Responsibilities:

The focus of the program is to provide experience in all areas of recreation and facility management. The intern will experience the areas of sports programming, food program prep, fitness, marketing, day camp, aquatics, child watch, special events, and park management.
